I celebrated my 30th birthday on August 19. In retrospect, I always envisioned the milestone as being some big hoorah. I’d kick off the new decade of my life in a fabulous pool party in Vegas with my closest girls. Then, we’d frolic around Sin City wining and dining the weekend away. Albeit, being almost 8 months pregnant will snuff out that dream candle pretty quickly… maybe at 35. *wishful thinking*
I woke up bright and early that day and walked Taz. It’s the middle of August but mornings here in Colorado Springs are on the chilly side with the aroma of mist kissed grass permeating the air. The fall-like feel inspired a sudden craving for apple crisp and crepes so these delightful beauties happened. I love anything apple and cinnamon!
Afterwards, Taz and I binge watched Law & Order SVU and napped until my husband was done with work. We were only interrupted by the doorbell but we opened the door to sweet surprises: Edible Arrangements from a good friend and 3 dozen stunning roses from my family.
Later that afternoon, we ventured off to Seven Falls which just re-opened the week before. The park was closed for two years due to severe flooding two years ago. Millions of dollars have been invested to revitalize the area and it was evident. This place was simply stunning.
We hiked until it got dark. The air up there (almost 7000ft altitude) was so clean and scented with fresh pine needles. I never fancied myself the hiking/mountain/great outdoors type. My idea of a good time was sand, surf, bikinis and cocktails in hand. But the more time I spend up here, the more the allure of the mountains entice me to lace up hiking boots and layer up clothing. Can I just say how much I loved layering up in the middle of August? This jacket & tank from Buckle was perfect for keeping my baby bump discreet. These jeans from H&M sit nice and low so no need for maternity pants here!
The day was culminated by a small cake and my boys singing happy birthday to me. The little man in my belly made his presence well known by playful jabs to his mama’s sides. It was such a simple day but I would not have had it any other way.
This was everything I never thought I wanted in a 30th birthday.
