Thank you, Cariloha for sponsoring this post!
Last fall, I decided to embark on the One Room Challenge by Calling it Home. I don’t know what I was thinking because I was 8 months pregnant. It was a 6 week challenge to re-do a room in your home and I chose our master bedroom to makeover. Our room here in Colorado is much larger than what we had in our Cape back in Rhode Island. The IKEA furniture that filled up our old room did not take up much space in our new bedroom. But with a new baby on the way, we did not have a budget for new furniture or decorations. So I decided to get creative and incorporate a lot of DIY elements. The first and ONLY step I took last fall was hacking our IKEA MALM Bed and extending its headboard into a tufted headboard. This small change helped tremendously with nursing the baby as I had something to lean back on. A tutorial and quick video recap of that project can be found here. Over the next four months, I added little updates to the room and I feel comfortable enough to show it to you guys. I’m linking the DIY elements and a great giveaway at the end!
Here was our empty little bedroom before:
- Tufted Headboard – Total project cost was $59.
- Curtains – I used these twin sheets from Target and turned them into curtains. $22 per window.
- Floating Shelf – my husband created this with the leftover particle board we used for the headboard. The tutorial is from Shanty 2 Chic.
- Side Tables – the tables were made from two wooden crates from Joann’s fabrics stacked together and painted black. Total cost was $14 per table!
And now for my favorite part of the room: the bedding! Cariloha was fabulous and sent us their Resort Bamboo Bedding and OH MY GOODNESS what a difference quality bedding makes! The fabric is made from 100% viscose from bamboo and it is softer than 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton. Sleeping in these sheets make me feel like I am sleeping in a luxury hotel bed. The fabric is so breathable and AGAIN SO SOFT! What I love most about it is that it’s made from sustainable bamboo so it’s eco-friendly. But don’t just take my word for it – they are kind enough to give away TWO of their resort sheet sets which you and a friend can win! A value of $239.00 each set. The instructions for the giveaway can be found on my Instagram and it will run through Thursday. Good luck!
