As a first time mom, I was clueless on what to pack in my diaper bag. I mean, he’s such a tiny human… how much stuff could he possibly NEED? I fancy myself a minimalist in the making so when it came time for packing my diaper bag, I decided to stick with the absolute bare essentials. I mean babies & the car seat carrier are heavy enough, nevermind having to lug around a diaper bag bursting at the seams.
Here is my list of the bare essentials that will get you through a few hours out of the house.
Diapers: Duhh. Whether you are using disposables or cloth, I recommend carrying 3-4 to ensure you have enough to last a few hours.
Wipes: Babies are messy. I am biased a love BabyGanics wipes. They are so soft and incredibly gentle.
Honest Healing Balm: I swear by this stuff. I use it from the first sign of irritation on Apollo’s bum to extra dryness on my hands. This stuff is amazing.
Hand Sanitizer: For those times you can’t get to washing your hands right away. Again, Honest Company hand sanitizer is my go-to. I love how gentle it is.
Diaper Changing Pad: Because you don’t want to change your baby on just any surface. Also, it protects furniture and carpet from any messes your baby decides to share.
Extra clothes & bib: In the event of explosive diapers, always have at least one back up outfit. I like to pack a footie pajama because it’s all in one: shirt, pants & socks. Easy peasy.
Wet diaper bag: Specially if you are using cloth and for any clothes leaked on. This keeps your bag from becoming a stinky mess. Save the planet, opt for the reusable.
Nursing Cover: This is if you breastfeed and are not yet sold on the “free the nipple movement.” I love my 3in1 cover from Copper Pearl. It acts as a nursing cover, carseat cover & shopping cart cover.
