What are some of your fondest early childhood memories? For me, Saturday morning cartoons followed by park strolls come to mind. The days seemed a lot simpler back then. Maybe it’s because I was living life through the understanding of a child, unencumbered by the worries of adulting. My sister, cousin, and I would each get 30 minute turns on what to watch while the adults prepared our breakfast. Later in the afternoon, we’d pile up in my mom’s small Tercel and make our way to the park to feed the ducks.
When it comes to raising Apollo, I’d like him to have the same appreciation for simplicity that I grew up with. My generation was the last before the tech and internet craze. While I understand that’s how it is now, I want him to grow up knowing mealtime is family time and weekends are for adventures.

The weather was beautiful this weekend. We started the day off with a little screen-time while I prepared his breakfast. He danced around in his cute pirate pajamas to the hotdog song – it was the most adorable thing. For the rest of the afternoon, I wanted to go to the park. Apollo loves the sight of water so I couldn’t wait to see the joy in his face when he saw the lake. I’ve said it before at 6 months, but I have to say this 16 month old period is my favorite age to date. His personality is shining through and he surprises us with how much he knows.
Being the mama-razzi that I am, I couldn’t wait to photograph his first day at the lake. A new outfit from the Carter’s Spring line was in his closet waiting to be worn. It could not have been more perfect for the arrival of spring. We have this routine when I’m dressing him; I tell his about how I can’t believe he’s grown, I tickle his belly, and he giggles and babbles away. When I’m through, I stand him up, take a look at him, and ask him to “hug mama”. After I put his shoes on to complete the look, I couldn’t help but tear up at how much he was looking like a toddler VS a baby. He’s growing up to be so handsome like his daddy.
You’re never fully dressed without a smile.
When we arrived at the park he saw the water immediately. The water was calling out to him and he made a run for it. Apollo walked up a few feet from the water. To my surprise, he didn’t jump in. It was as though he knew he had brand new shoes on that he didn’t want to ruin. I think he was also overwhelmed by all the geese in the water. He stood there frozen for awhile staring while they approached. A couple of geese were specially curious of my little man and swam a couple of feet away from him. Apollo kept pointing to them, then would look at me as though he was asking “are you seeing this?” He was so fascinated and it was the cutest thing. We hung out at the edge of the lake marveling at the nature that surrounded us. It was such a perfect day.
We don’t buy Apollo too many “things”. Most of his toys are used toys that my dad brought over from RI or gifted to him for his birthday. One thing I am guilty of spoiling him with though are baby clothes and baby shoes. I absolutely love dressing him. One day, he’ll grow up and come into his own style. Until then, I am having the best time styling and photographing him. Carter’s has been my go-to store for his outfits and baby shoes. They have everything I need to ensure Apollo is fresh to death stylin’ – from outfit sets, bodysuits, all the way down to his sleep and plays. I’m specially loving the new spring line, featuring super soft indigo knits, dip-dyed fabrics, and pastel and denim combos. Who doesn’t love that?
Sucker for a good sale.
